Minutes of Region Meeting
Western Michigan Region, NSP
April 30, 2011, Crystal Mountain

Meeting Called to Order:  Meeting called to order at 2:07 by RD Tony Wolfer.

Present:  Laura Cameron, Mike Fick, Dan Goldberger, Doug Mesara, Jen Squires, Colleen Wolfer, Chip Knappen, Erica Krol, Shawn Rhoda, Sue Brann, Pat Livingston, John Donnelly, Dani Doolittle, Mike Patterson, Gregg Hoppe, Scott Waddell, Tim Kirch, Tom Fisher, Dave Corey, Tony Wolfer, Dave Johnson, Larry Klose, Julie Johnson, Jim Barlas.

Secretary’s Report:  Minutes of March 2, 2011 accepted as written.

Treasurer’s Report:  Financial reporting dates for Division are now the same as our Region dates.  Larry Klose says as of Aug 1, all Section, Patrol and Swap reports are due.  Division treasurer gave kudos to our reporting as completed by Larry.  For the password for web site access to reporting forms, contact Larry via e-mail.

Section and Patrol Reports

Cannonsburg:  Mike Fick reported that they had a good year and the new owners were happy.

Pando: Colleen Wolfer reported a good year with high ticket sales but average number of accidents.  Improvements are expected in the area.

Timber Ridge:  Doug Mesara says depending on who you speak with, the owners report either a good or mediocre year.

Bittersweet:  Dave Corey says the area had an excellent year although they had 700+ accidents with most from the terrain park.  A new lift is going in and a new bowl area is opening.

Caberfae:  Tim Kirch says their season ran 114 days.  Owners believe the skier count is up over the last year.  They have 7 new basic patrollers and 10 candidates starting class in May.

Crystal Mountain:  Gregg Hoppe says their busy times changed with normal peak dates being less busy.  Overall an exceptional year.  Accidents were lower.  Their terrain park was tweaked with an engineer’s assistance.  A new lift for Loki/Thor is in the final stages of planning.

Region Calendar:  Dates for the 2011-12 season were noted - see spread sheet.

Discussion:  Topics discussed included Region requirements for Basic Hill Exams and Division requirements for Senior Hill Exams.
